Fan Musings: Winds of Change
Change is good, but sometimes it's tough. There is a lot of adjusting going on. More so than you might think.
When entertainers start getting more popular, they have the added burden of making the transition to greater fame look seamless to the average fan. But just watch a few of those "Behind the Music" shows and you'll see that wasn't the case for many of them. Years after the fact, you'll hear about how many of them were scared and just plain unprepared for the whole hoopla. Unfortunately, some ended up dealing with it all by self-medication.
When the winds of change start blowing, you start seeing little things disappear. Maybe the artist were friends or family members you're not hearing as much from because life has taken them on the road. And on those days when they are home, they have to catch up with themselves. So, no time left for you. E-mails get shorter or infrequent. Or they stop altogether.
As you start noticing these things, it's easy to complain that such and such has blown you off. But do we really know that for sure? Instead, could it be that they are caught up in a changing tide of popularity and they're not sure yet just how to navigate that current?
When we start missing the attention, this may be the time to stop and think before we vent--and start praying. Pray for your favorite, that God will guide him or her through the new phases of responsibility and the decisions they will make going forward will be solid and uplifting. And we need to pray for ourselves, that any sense of emptiness we feel from these changes will be filled with something positive that will prove as a blessing to someone else.
