3/3/06

I haven't felt like writing lately. Last time I posted I talked about the passing of Bob Feldman. Last week we suddenly and tragically lost someone in the gospel music industry who was a friend to me personally. See Wendy V's Ponderings for more on that one. This sort of thing is getting old.

I did promise to mention a couple of things and I apologize for the delay in that, but hopefully folks will understand.

I'm also sorry I didn't get to Sam Shaber's Ginkgo gig last month, but my car was ill and there was a -25 wind chill. Hopefully I will make it to Ginkgo on March 9 to see Kate McDonnell. Kate and I go back a long way. We worked together at a non-profit in New Haven, CT in the mid-80s. At that time, she was just contemplating doing something serious with her singing. Next time I hooked up with her was about mid-90s, when she asked me for some help in getting her first solo CD "Broken Bones" to folk radio. Kate had so much success with radio airplay for that album that we lost count of all the radio stations that embraced it...and that success ultimately played a role in getting her signed to a folk label. I lost touch with her sometime after that. If my car cooperates, maybe I'll surprise her.

A new release to note: Rebekka Fisher has been one of the most diversely talented, hardest working musicians in the Twin Cities area. She's also been a strong, dedicated advocate for the women musicians in this community, heading up the non-profit organization WIMMN. Her latest release, These Eyes, is possibly her best yet. It rings with the musical feel of the "Minneapolis sound" and shows more of Rebekka's continuous and consistent musical growth.

I'm taking a bit of a hiatus here and heading for Nashville in April. I will write after that. Some time in the future I will be talking about some changes I've decided to make that I've been kicking around for some time. Stay tuned.

Till next time ... Wendy
